KS Rep. Pompeo’s Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Has Hearing

The House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing on HR4432, the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act on Wednesday. The bill introduced in April by Kansas Congressman Mike Pompeo, would reaffirm the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s authority to establish science-based food labeling standard. This bill addresses a concern about the creation of a patchwork of politically-driven GMO labeling laws that could be implemented on the state level. With this bill, FDA, not activists would set food labeling standards.

“On Wednesday, the House Energy & Commerce Committee held a hearing on this topic,” Congressman Pompeo said. “We focused on the science behind innovative technology needed to feed the world, the FDA’s role in labeling foods containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), and the real-world experience of Cloud County farmer, rancher, and mom Stacey Forshee.”
