Governor Sam Brownback awarded Steven Yust of Reno County won the Best Corn in Ears award at the Kansas State Fair on Thursday. The Kansas Corn Growers Association was on hand to help present a plaque for the winning entry.

Yust, whose  family farm celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2014, said he could have used more rain this growing season especially for his dryland crops. His winning entry was from an irrigated field.

At the Governor’s Day awards ceremony, Yust showed the governor his winning entry and explained why the ear of corn received honors. Kansas State Fair Agriculture Superintendent Gene Algrim said this year’s corn competition had a large number of entries.
