Seed to STEM Outreach to KVATE Educators

Seed to STEM Lead Educator Anna Lukert from St. Marys Junior Senior High School in St. Marys, KS recently led teachers from at the Kaw Valley Academy for Technology Education (KVATE) through two sessions about the Seed to STEM curriculum. In the first session, KVATE teachers completed the Corn DNA Extraction lab and discussed biotechnology and the resources available through the Seed2STEM.org website and workshops. One teacher attendee commented: “This was a really fun session and Anna did a great job of leading it. I needed more fun ideas for my students to do this year and I can see this being an interesting lesson for them.”

The second session focused on ethanol production, as Lukert led teachers through the Fermentation in a Bag lab from the Seed2STEM website. The teachers had a great discussion about renewable fuels and potential activities and resources for ethanol production. One teacher commented, “I think it is a great resource and the videos are engaging. The resources are there for the teacher.” Now KVATE teachers are ready to grow their students’ knowledge about Kansas Corn!
