Kansas Corn Yield Contest

The Kansas Corn Yield Contest partners with the National Corn Yield Contest to recognize and award Kansas growers. NCYC entrants are automatically entered in the state contest, allowing growers to submit one registration and harvest form for both.

Key Dates (6)

Contest Goals

Launched in 2018, the Kansas Corn Yield Contest provides an opportunity for Kansas farmers to compete against other growers in their district, as well as growers across the state. Our contest partners with the National Corn Yield Contest to allow growers to compete in both contests with one entry and one harvest form.

  • RECOGNIZE and celebrate the success of high-yielding corn farmers across the state of Kansas.
  • IMPROVE farming operations and increase awareness and implementation of the best management practices (BMPs) to improve and sustain corn yields.
  • SHARE data collected with other farmers to benchmark cornfields and provide information to increase profitability.

Eligibility & Deadlines

The Kansas and National Corn Yield Contest is accepting applications until August 12th. Learn more below.

Kansas Corn Yield Contest District Map

The Kansas Corn Yield Contest will award a dryland and irrigated winner in each of the districts. The districts align with crop reporting districts, plus a NNE district that includes Doniphan and parts of Brown and Atchison counties (fields north and/or east of Hwy 73). One statewide dryland and one statewide irrigated winner will be announced. Cash prizes will be awarded at the district and state levels.

Yield Contest FAQs

  • The Kansas Corn Yield Contest (KCYC) was created to recognize participants whose yields may not be able to compete at the national level. The Kansas contest works in conjunction with the National Corn Yield Contest (NCYC). Participants can complete entries for the National contest and are automatically entered into the Kansas contest at no additional cost. Kansas participants have double the chances to earn prizes and recognition by competing in two different contests!

  • While the National contest uses classes based on tillage practice, irrigation and corn-belt location, the Kansas contest is divided by the 9 state crop reporting districts, with the addition of the North-Northeast District 10 (fields North and East of Highway 73). Entries are then separated between dryland and irrigated fields for each district. This allows participants to compete regionally rather than across the state.

The Kansas contest also recognizes NCYC yields from Kansas for the Nitrogen Management Class and the Short-Season Corn Class. An Overall State Winner and the 1st place entries from each district will be recognized for the Nitrogen Management Class along with the Top 3 Short Season Corn entries.

  • The Kansas contest follows the same rules and regulations as the National contest, with the exception that a KCYC participant can win multiple times in their district if they have multiple entries placing in the Top 3. The entry and harvest rules for the National contest can be found here.

  • Participants can enter the contest by visiting https://ncga.com/get-involved/yield-contest. By entering the National Corn Yield Contest, Kansas participants are automatically entered into the Kansas Corn Yield Contest. No extra steps are required!

  • On average, completing the harvest entry portion of the contest takes about 2 hours. Please keep in mind that there are many variables that can considerably impact this time frame such as supervisor experience, elevator lines, header size, etc.

  • Kansas Corn receives the harvest entry data from the National Corn Yield Contest. The Top 3 dryland and Top 3 irrigated entries for each district are recognized as well as the overall state dryland and irrigated winners. Kansas also recognizes the Overall State Winner and 1st place entries from each district for the Nitrogen Management Class and Top 3 Short-Season Corn Class entries from Kansas, regardless of district or irrigation.

Note: Because Kansas winners are based on districts, it is extremely important to accurately select the county for the field you will be entering into the contest. Selecting an inaccurate county may result in competing in a different district. Please double check this on your entry.

  • KCYC winners receive the following:

    • Overall State Winners*
      • $500 check
      • Custom shop sign with their entry information
      • Carhartt jacket with embroidered KCYC logo

      • Custom shop sign with their entry information
    • District Second Place
      • $200 check

Kansas winners are recognized at the Kansas Corn Symposium and will be highlighted on our social media pages.

*The Overall State Winner and 1st place winner in each district for the Nitrogen Management Class will be awarded; 2nd and 3rd place will not be recognized.

  • Yes! Starting in 2026, KCYC will award the Top 3 Seed Sales Representatives based on the number of participants the rep has in the contest at the time of the August 12th entry deadline. Participants must ensure they have the correct seed sales rep name listed in their entry. The Top 3 winners will receive a check for $150 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place. Winners will be recognized at the Kansas Corn Symposium and highlighted on our social media pages.
