Mitchell County

Soil Health Field Day

The focus of the Soil Health Field Day is on soil health, soil microbiology, no-till practices and nutrient management. The event will take place in two locations in Mitchell County. At both locations we are measuring the economic and environmental benefits of different soil management strategies. At the first stop, we are working with cover crops. At the second stop, we are working on nitrogen management for corn. We have the same set of factors at both sites this include; soil fungi, soil bacteria, mycorrhizal, enzymes, soil organic carbon & total nitrogen, aggregate stability, and standard nutrients.

  • First stop will focus on wheat and specifically soil health.
  • Second stop will focus on corn and soil chemistry. Attendees will have a chance to hear from Kansas Corn representatives as well.
